Fully realising the impact that an ever strengthening
Europe would have on their future, players in
the contract catering sector decided in 1990 to join
forces. Together, they took action and founded a powerful
European federation : FERCO.
Ours is a profession that affects the daily lives
of a wide cross-section of consumers across Europe.
These are the millions of men, women and children
to whom we consistently serve healthy and balanced
meals.
|
Be it in a business, educational or medical environment,
our membersand their 600.000
employeesare committed to meeting the needs of
consumers and of the client organisations to whom they contract.
They do this by leveraging not only resources and technologies
but also by implementing and sharing Best Practice. Through
their on-going efforts, they ensure that contract catering
remains a dependable service, both in terms of the standards
it displays and the spirit in which it carries out its services.
FERCOs role vis-à-vis
European institutions, is to raise awareness of our
profession, to explain what we are and what we do. This
is also the purpose of this Website. In these web pages,
we provide an overview illustrating both the advances made
by our industry and the milestones achieved by our federation.
FERCO is a discussion forum where industry players can reflect
on key issues with
a view to securing more widespread consensus on them, while
respecting the individual needs and independence of national
contract catering associations. Such issues include
food safety, labour laws, personnel
training, VAT legislation,
public procurement, the environment
and more.
FERCOs top objectives are clear : Helping further
favourable European legislation, pursuing a constructive
social dialogue, expanding
its membership, bolstering co-operation between national
associations and fostering a European contract catering
culture.
I am utterly convinced that by pursuing these policies and
objectives the contract catering sector can, and will, make
a substantial contribution to building a better Europe.
