In recent years the EU Commission has studied increasing the amount of information given to consumers about the food they eat. FERCO, the European Federation of Contract Catering Organisations has had the opportunity to raise at several occasions the issue of informing the end consumers in the contract catering sector with Commission officials and European Parliament members.
Catering Companies all share the important responsibility to provide well balanced meals to their daily 67 millions consumers and are conscious of the necessity to make appropriate information on the meal they served available upon request of their consumers.
The Contract Catering sector is a specific element of the food chain. Therefore, FERCO believes that it is of the utmost importance for the EU Institutions to understand perfectly what Contract Catering is and how the nature and constraints of its activities influence the way Contract Catering Companies may inform their end consumers.
This is why, FERCO wants to ensure that regulators have a thorough understanding of the Contract Catering sector so that impractical and burdensome legislative requirements are avoided in favour of an efficient, flexible and practical approach on providing information to customers.
